From its roots in Madiun to its expanding presence across Indonesia and beyond, Maesa Group plays an active role in shaping strategy, governance, and capital discipline, ensuring that growth is not only ambitious but also controllable and sustainable.
Our Story
The origins of Maesa Group trace back to the establishment of Pabrik Es Batu Bumi Lancar in Ponorogo in 1986, founded by Mr. Hendro Wibowo (also known as Tjioe Kian Tjun). Built through perseverance and hands-on effort, the business grew steadily, leading to the establishment of Pabrik Es Mitra Samudra Utama in Tuban, East Java, in 1996, which became one of the largest ice factories in Java at the time.
Operating in regions that were still distant from major urban centers shaped Maesa’s entrepreneurial mindset. Market gaps, infrastructure limitations, and unmet demand were seen not as obstacles, but as opportunities. This ability to read the market and act decisively led to the expansion into new sectors, including automotive, financial services, and hospitality.
As the portfolio expanded across diverse, initially unrelated industries, the need for a more structured, professional approach became clear. This realization led to the establishment of Maesa Group in 2017 as a holding company, transforming family-led operations into professionally managed businesses, strengthening human capital, and ensuring sustainable growth through regeneration, governance, and long-term planning.
